What is a T1 Repeater?
T1 repeaters are used to extend T-1 lines from the standard length of 655 feet up to 4,000 to 5,000 feet or more. In order to transmit signals over long distances, repeaters are used to amplify or regenerate the signals at regular intervals. T1 is an analog technology and analog signals degrade quickly as a function of distance. T1 Repeaters are often called T1 Extenders and the terms are used synonymously. Here is an application diagram showing how T1 Repeaters are typically employed. Notice that T1 Repeaters are typically used in pairs, since T1 is bi-directional.
T1 Repeaters, are especially attractive solutions in those situations where a T1 Demarc is located some distance away from the T1 equipment.
