How Do I Extend a T1 Demarc?

What do you do in those situations where a T1 demarc, or the T1 demarcation point, is located some distance away from the T1 equipment it needs to connect to?  Its not always as simple as just running a cable.  T1 analog signals degrade quickly as a function of distance.  If the distance between the demarc and the T1 equipment is beyond the standard length of 655 feet -- then you need use T1 repeaters, or T1 Extenders to effectively move or extend the T1 demarc.

In order to transmit signals over long distances, T1 Extenders are used to amplify or regenerate the signals.  T1 Extenders are normally used in pairs, one at each end.  Here is an application diagram showing how T1 Extenders are typically employed over copper.

Patton Electronics has developed T1 Extenders that transport a T1 over DSL.  This conversion technology has the advantage of using fewer wires (a single twisted pair).  The Patton 2115 T-Extender units they work over much greater distances than simple T1 Repeaters.  Here is an application diagram:

T1's can be extended to far greater distances by using Fiber Optic cable.  With Fiber T1 Extender units you can push a number of T1's across a single cable.
