Multiplexed Ethernet Extenders Ethernet Extender MUX Concentrator
Ethernet Extenders extend Ethernet beyond its normal distance limitation, normally over copper infrastructure. Typically they are sold in pairs, with a local and remote unit, one at each end. But what do you do when you have lots of remote sites like spokes of a wheel, running out from a central hub? Its no problem to put a "remote" unit at each of the far ends. But what do you do at the local end? Nobody wants a bunch of Ethernet Extender "local" units, with their power supplies, cluttering the Network center.
The Patton 3224 DSLAM multiplexes 24 G.SHDSL ports and presents them on a 50 pin cable. This means that you don't have 24 "Local" units piled on top of each other in a tangle of wires, at the central location -- you have a single 1U Rack-Mounted box which handles the IP Routing and the Ethernet Extension. Its a much more manageable and elegant approach when you need to extend Ethernet to a number of remote locations from a central area.
The Patton 3224 is a G.SHDSL Multiplexer -- DSLAM for short. The 3224 is normally teamed with the Patton 3201 2.3 MBPS, G.SHDSL ROUTER or the Patton 3241 4.6 MBPS, G.SHDSL ROUTER at the remote end. Follow the links below for more information.
